OK, some very good news!
This setting enabled me to play both Bf1942 AND FH!
However it seems that it only solves my FH problem partially - 2 maps of the 3 I tried did not work
I made an attempt to play online (can't remember what map) and the map loading meter stopped on half - it didn't crash, it just stopped so I ESC'd out of it.
Then I tried single player (offline) - The Adak map seemed to load fine, but when the meter was at 100% it froze and crashed.
My third attempt was vanilla Bf1942 - Battle of the Bulge. Loaded fine and played fine too.
My fourth attempt was (also single player) FH - Bocage. Loaded fine and played fine.
Any further help appreciated - at least things look much much better now than they did initially
All is working just fine - I was probably too eager to wait for the maps to load properly when I tried at first

After asking about widescreen settings, I have now another question. This time it is about the sound configuration under Windows, so I thought this might be the right place to ask.
I have in my PC two sound cards working, one the on-board of the mainboard and Soundblaster Audigy. I would like to assign BF42 as standard always the on-board card. Right now I need to switch the settings of Windows between one or the other card, but I would like to do that the SB Audigy is standard for Windows all the time and the on-board always for BF.
I can do so in other games like WoW or programmes like Skype or TS.
Has anyone of an idea if this even possible to assign BF a certain sound card? Or will BF always take the settings made under Windows?
thank you for posting the link to the other thread, I have read it whole but unfortunately I did not found an answer for my question.
But that is not a problem, because I think there is no solution for my issue. I think so because there is neither a possibility to assign a certain sound output to BF ingame nor in the sound.con.
Before I start BF I select the on-board sound VIA HD Audio, I need to do so because the speakers for it are in my sleeping room where the PC is located also. The SB Audigy speakers are in my living room for listening music there.
So I will game on this way, ti is okay. Just wanted to know if I can do it another way.
But if you have a headset with microphone and earphones and "jacks" I think you can safely play, hear the sounds of "Forgotten Hope" and the music and talk in teamspeak 2 or 3. Check if your sound card has two inputs for connecting the "jacks" headset with microphone and headphones. Attention! Warning! It will not work if you have a headset with USB port.
An example of picture (you can see 2 jacks to plug in your sounds card). it is an example but you have many and many trade marks .
